Hi, I have a new set of spade grips that came with my 1919 (I dont know who made them) They come with plastic grips with a single finger groove on each one. My question is there any way to tighten them up? The handles rotate fairly freely , and I tried to unscrew them but they wont budge..

Found a pic: the plastic handles rotate around, anyway to stop this?

Looks like a allied armament set. Im sure you've already tried cranking down on the screws a bit right? (my spades were homemade, so im not all that familiar with your set). I imagine you could try using a washer as a shim to get a little tighter fit, but it probably wont keep them from spinning, just make it less easy to do.

I ended up getting rid of the spanner type nuts on mine because they kept loosening themselves no matter how hard I cranked down on em, and going a bit heavier duty. Sure it doesnt look as good, but them boys dont spin anymore :coffee:

It could be that the inside sleeves are a bit to long. You could disassemble them, file some material off of the sleeves and try it again until they tighten up correctly.

Mine are like those. I unscrewed the bottom and drilled a small hole thru to the resin, tapped in a roll pin, screwed the bottom back on to hide the pins. Walla! Grips can't rotate. You can see them in my avatar.

It is possible that they used loctite on the screws when they assembled them. Using some heat from a heat gun to get the screw warm and allowing it to transfer into the stud might work to loosen it up. Just be sure to protect your resin grips from getting any direct heat. A damp cloth wrapped them should work. Heat will also help things expand abit, in case it is just a tight fit.

DO NOT use a torch for the heat source if you decide to try this. It will heat things up to much and too quickly and will cause the parkerzing to discolour.

Another idea to try. Find to piece of flat steel that will fit the slot in the screws. You want the complete length of the screw slot to be engaged. Take one of the pieces of steel and place it in a vise. Now take the second piece of steel and hold it with a pair of vise grips or a clamp. The idea is to hold the bottom screw using the steel in the vise from turning will you use the other piece of steel to loosen the top screw. This way at least one of the screws should come loose. Trying to hold the grip by hand while trying to loosen one screw at a time could just be futile. Hopefully I explained what to do well enough? I am not know for explaining things well sometimes. On an obscure note... My wife just asked me why the T&E is on backward in the picture.

Good point. I didn't even notice that.

So Tanker... Did you get those screws loosened up yet? Just curious.

Hmmm.... I guess Tanker left the building. Curious if he ever got those spade grips off. Oh well. :big:
