Fixed the double tap I did on the last pic. It cut the sucker in 1/2! Damn! Can't remember the pedo used.........naw.......the brain deleted that info. Must be gettin old...or maybe Al Heimer is creeping in :roll:

ok, clarify your intel here..

The only other M1A1 tanks in the region are Saudi and UAE..this one doesn't have any visible US markings or unit markings. What it does have is a big ass hole by the gunner position and another vehicle that looks like a knocked out FV432 behind it..

RPG won't go through Abrams frontal armor, and there's no blast scorch from the HEAT warhead, so this has to be a tank kill with a KE (sabot) round.

Were these part of a Saudi unit?

I had a feeling that pic would raise some questions.This particular M1 encountered an electrical fire (from what I hear) that disabled it and there was no way to recover it while the place was crawling with insurgents.So rather than it let it fall into enemy hands we destroyed it.I'm guessing that hole was from one our Sabot rounds penetrating through the front armor.The other vehcle In the pic I dont have any info on that one.I will try to find some more info on this but it has been confirmed that we took it out ourselves...

That would explain a lot. the placement of the shot would put a big nasty hole through the gun breech. Upon closer inspection, the vehicle to the rear isn't a Brit FV, but looks like a mortar carrier variant of a different APC type, but it's been hit also. Considering the insane penetration of the current sabot round, this might have been a two-fer.

10/11/2007 - WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- The Air Force announced Oct. 11 that the MQ-9 Reaper, the service's new hunter-killer unmanned aerial vehicle, is now flying operational missions in Afghanistan. The Reaper has completed 12 missions since its inaugural flight there Sept. 25, averaging about one sortie per day.

Capable of striking enemy targets with on-board weapons, the Reaper has conducted close-air support and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

Operational use of Reaper's advanced capabilities marks a step forward in the evolution of unmanned aerial systems. Air Force quality assurance evaluators gave a "thumbs up" to the aircraft's debut performance and have been pleased with its operation ever since.

"The Reaper is a significant evolution in capability for the Air Force," said Gen. T. Michael Moseley, Air Force chief of staff. "We've taken these aircraft from performing mainly as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms to carrying out true hunter-killer missions."

The Reaper is larger and more heavily-armed than the MQ-1 Predator. In addition to its traditional ISR capabilities, it is designed to attack time-sensitive targets with persistence and precision, and destroy or disable those targets. To date, Reaper operators have not been called upon to drop their weapons on enemy positions.

Like the Predator, the Reaper is launched, recovered and maintained at deployed locations, while being remotely operated by pilots and sensor operators at Creech Air Force Base, Nev. That is where the resemblance ends. The MQ-9 has nearly nine times the range, can fly twice as high and carries more munitions.

"It's a tremendous increase in our capability that will allow us to keep UAVs over the airspace of Afghanistan and Iraq in the future for a very long time," said Lt. Gen. Gary North, commander of U.S. Central Command Air Forces, who said the Reaper was a perfect complement to the Air Force's existing manned airborne platforms. "This is just another evolutionary step where technology is helping commanders on the battlefield to integrate great effects from the air into the ground commander's scheme of maneuver."

General North added that he expects the Reaper to bring a significant impact to military operations throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

"The enemy knows we track them and they know that if and when they commit acts against their people and government, we will take action against them," General North said. "The Reaper is an incredible weapon in our quiver."

Approved by Air Combat Command in 2004, the Air Force currently has nine Reapers in its inventory.

3/11/2008 - ZAMBRANIYAH, Iraq (AFPN) -- A B-1B Lancer aircrew destroyed an al-Qaida torture compound and prison with six guided bomb unit-38 Joint Direct Attack Munitions at 2:07 p.m. March 10 in Zenbaraniyah.

The bombing marked a change of fortunes for the village, where local villagers began standing up to the terrorists a little more than a month ago in the former al-Qaida hotbed south of Baghdad.

The 500-pound-class Global Positioning System-guided bombs struck the torture compound in a coordinated effort with Multi-National Division - Center officials and Iraqi forces.

"This (airstrike) removes the last remnants of al-Qaida from this area," said Army Lt. Col. Mark Solomon, the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Squadron commander.

The compound consisted of three buildings along with several small shelters near the back of the compound. The facilities had been used for torture, with handcuffs hooked to the walls with bare wires plugged into outlets nearby. Several of the walls were blood splattered. There were also several interrogation manuals Soldiers found when they captured the compound.

One community member, who escaped from the facility, said it was a new day for the village as he looked into the bomb's craters.

"We all feel good," Aubid Abdalla said. "It's a dark past that is gone."

Mr. Abdalla, a former Iraqi army intelligence officer, was encouraging local citizens to give coalition efforts a chance, when he was kidnapped. He spent 15 days in the facility and saw a young boy and an old man killed while he was held prisoner.

Less than an hour afterward, after the B-1B's precision deliveries destroyed the al-Qaida torture facilities, Mr. Abdalla said the event had changed him.

"I'm a lot happier now," he said. "It was like my mother gave birth to me again."

Senior Airman Joseph Aton, a joint terminal attack controller assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, directed the final clearance in the B-1B's deliberate JDAM weapons delivery process.

"It was great to be part of this," Airman Aton said. "You can tell the people were happy to have this place gone and it was awesome to make a difference for them."

The effort was a joint effort between officials from the Multi-National Division-Center, the Combined Forces Air Component commander's Combined Air and Space Operations Center, the 9th Air Expeditionary Task Forces Air Expeditionary Wing, which flies the B-1B in the area of responsibility and Sons of Iraq, who helped provide security.

As coalition forces left the area, villagers stood on the side of the road cheering and clapping to be rid of this remnant of al-Qaida.
