Im new to this so please be gentle. When I was in the military I used what they gave me but never thought to notice there might be some differences. I started my military life behind a M60 on a M151.

Now that Im spending MY money, Ive noticed there are different pedestal heights. Some seem to bearly clear the windshield on jeeps and some are much higher. Is there an advantage?

Also I see that some have smaller or larger footprints and some have extention legs. Clearly someone thought the extentions were necessary; but is it necessary for 30cal or only 50BMG?

If you were desiging the perfect vehicle (pedetal) mount for a Jeep and spending your money, what would you use?

Usually they started off with just a simple pedalstal then as it was fielded they began suggesting modifications and improvements to handle thing such as terrain and the larger caliber of the 50 cal... As far as the heights I can't comment on that... All I can figure is they tried to build something that could be used on multiple platforms but it never seems to work out that way...

I'm pretty sure if a person was shooting from a pedalstal on a jeep they'd want to have the front windshield secured down so I don't think the height going forward would be an issue... on the 3/4 ton Truck M37 the height for the gun is roughly the same as well you'd just be barely shooting over the windshield just like the 1/4 ton...
