Im new here but not to the subject. Please forgive me if this is out of line. I need some help with a "Father and Son" project Im doing.

It all started a couple years ago when my son and I saw the movie "District 9". He asked about the vehicles (Toyota pick-up) with MGs mounted on them. Then he asked if we could do something like that. He was 12 at the time and it generated a lot of good "wouldnt this be cool...." talks. I knew I was hooked when he asked if he would be able to drive it. I said well this wouldnt be something we'd take to the grocery store. He said, "No Dad, I mean when you and I got to car shows..."

So the "District 9" Toyota has morphed into a 2006 Jeep Wrangler and now I want some weapons mounts for it. Of course we wont be doing any driving around town with guns mounted or any other illegal activity.

Since its not a military vehicle, I dont feel the need to stick with military mounts or placement. I have some ideas for a mount on the roll bar and others; but I dont have any clue where to start.

Any help would be appreciated.

First thing we need to know is the type of gun you plan to mount on it!

Can you post up some pictures of the vehicle you want to add some decoration to? Oh and welcome to the forum.:drivingshift:

That's what I did... For the mount, I just bought a steel plate wide enough to span between the flats on the top of the roll bar where the lights go. Then I used a piece of 2-inch diameter sch-40 pipe to make the riser since I only needed a very small amount of grinding to slide the pintle socket in. I used a short piece of 4x2-inch box steel to make a support from the pedestal to the base plate.

Re PICS: I'll try to post but I have yet to be successful posting pics on any sight. However what I have is your basic 2006 Jeep Wrangler with the factory roll bar. Right now the Jeep has a hard top, which will come off as soon as I can get a soft or bikini top.

Re GUNS: Dont cringe; but my frist choice is to use RPKs (yes I know they arent belt feds OR have any provision for mounting--thats what's making this project so much fun) I want to use RPKs because I have four of them and Im a AK fan including (SBR's), so the RPKs mesh to well with my AKs to mess with other options, (including my MG34)

Ive got a KNS adapter for a picatinny rail to the MG42 tripod. I thought about that (and Im willing to put quad rails on my RPKs); but Im not sure thats the most durable set up. I was thinking more along the lines of something that clamped onto the barrel and mounted to a US tripod.

IF any such thing is possible, my plan was for two RPKs to be mounted SxS on the roll bar, possibly another on the left door (my Jeep is right hand drive), and MAYBE a fourth mounted low in the back facing rear.

RPKs will of course require extra thought because of mag changes: but I "think" a barrel mount or quad rail hand guard to picatinny mount will work---thats assuming I can find someone to make it.

All right , now we have something to work with!

RPK thoughts: No way would I trust an aluminum fore end rail to support a gun to vehicle mount. Needs more beef... That said, seems to me that replacing the lower handguard with a barrel clamp/pintle piece.
75 round drums will give you more capacity, make mag changes easier and look MUCH cooler/eviler.

RPKs are cool, but the MG34 would be much cooler... :big:
MG34 is very easy to mount with this adapter:

If you can score one of these MG34 to MG42 mount adapters there are quite a few different MG42/MG3 vehicle mounts out there:

TIM, Thanks Bro!

I really considered the MG34; but I think the RPKs win (for this project).
1. I have 4 of them.
2. They work well with my other AKs.
3. Im flush with mags parts and ammo (and I think parts will be easier to find long term).

That being said Im reeeely liking the double MG34 mount. It would be definetly cool .

I think youre right about the picatinny rail connection. It does seem to withstand 50BMG recoil in youtube videos; but how long??? Id like to find someone who would make a barrel clamp thet replaces the lower handguard with a tripod connection.

This is the best Ive come up with so far:http://pics.gunbroker.com/GB/227152000/227152194/pix788162165.jpg
Its the CTK carry handle/tripod adapter for the AR50. Im gonna attach it to a quad rail handguard or possibly a Ultimak lower picatinny handguard. I suspect some additional support may be necessary for vehicle use.

I just ordered the CTK adapter today. For what its worth the manufacturer was very friendly and understanding of my unusual needs. When everything arrives I'll start some field trials.

Still looking for ideas and a builder willing to do custom work....
