Just fired my 1919A4 off an MG42 tripod and am having problems with feeding. I'm using metal links. I thought that it might be the links I used since they were tight but I used links that were much more flexable and had the same problem. I tried it a few weeks ago and it worked fine off the bench.

Any idea what might be the problem?

You may need to support the rounds with one hand wile shooting...if you have to much ammo hanging it will cause problems feeding...when you were shooting off the bench there was less weight pulling on the belt.

ok first off, lets hit the basics. what caliber ammo and from what country, which links (izzy or usgi), etc.

also like G50 was saying, if the ammo was hanging it can cause problems.

You dont happen to be using a trunnion protector? If so throw it away thats going to be one of your biggest problems for feeding issues. Also its a good idea to spray some WD-40 or other type of oil on your linked up belts especially when your running say steel cased ammo cause they can cuase drag on the links and can also cuase feeding issues. But lets see what kind of stuff runnin to get a better idea...:army:

Don't forget guys find out what kind of ammo... Some factory ammo does not run well in the 1919 and may hand cycle okay but when it counts it doesn't run because the OAL is too short...

By that you Mean 7.62 NATO vs .308 right?

I'm aware of any length difference between 30-06 and 30-06

the belt feed pawl spring, the one that fits in the slide on the top cover. I sell more of those springs than any other part for feed problems. it could be weak.

Also check the belt hold pawl that is located on the edge of the trunnion. The spring holding my pawl was too stiff, it actually prevented easy belt feeding and the rounds were hanging up or going in canted. I had to change it out for a lighter spring. The suggestions from the rest are good ones. I'm still a noobie, so I'm still learning as I go.

Nope... I'm talking about the commercial ammo with the soft tips etc...:green:

+1 on the holding-pawl spring possibly being too stiff.. I had that problem with both my AA and ORF guns and going to a lighter spring fixed the problem.

I used different types of ammo and its an Isreal parts build in NATO 308 w/o trunion protector. I think it may be a combination of the stiff links and belt feed pawl spring. I'll oil the links a bit but where do I get the spring and how do I replace it?

Here's one place... I think Slick also said at one time you get one that was really close at an Ace Hardware I'll let him chime in on that...

Sometimes it's good to have a couple of them... Another thing the guys have run into is check the pocket the spring fits into sometimes sand grease and grime get in there making it seem like a stiff spring...
