convert to 8mm?

with the high prices of 308 wondering if its a good idea to convert to 8 mm? anyone know what this takes and what the cost is? and what exactly needs to be done anyone? Baron :shock:

unless you got a stockpile, or find some at a gunshow - the 8mm is pretty much gone. I jumped on a few cases just before militarygunsupply.com ran out. Im trying to convert over too, from what i understand you will need:

8mm barrel
8mm Front cartridge stop
8mm/30.06 booster

and if you find some yugoslavian 8mm you will need a "firing pin spacer" becuase of deep set / hard primers. Some barrels have a problem with yugo stuff so be careful which one you pick.

I may be missing something since i am still a noob too, but this should give ya an idea of what your lookin at.

Some have mentioned a conversion to 7.65x54r - that will probably be the next step.

uuuuh..guys...the gun was originally BUILT to fire US .30 cal / 30-06, and last I looked there was LOTS of that around.....

CMP requires a club membership or you need to get someone to bootleg for you...I have a source or two...
CMP was selling the 192 rd tins for about $40, guys are buying the 4 tin crates and canning up ammo in 250 rd lots for $75-$95..
Polygunbag has 400 rd cans of HXP Greek for $96...
I'm stockin up on the -06...
