Okay so the price on scrap brass has really taken a dive... So I can either smelt all this brass down into ingots or bars or perhaps I can put it to a better use... Can the brass be used to make mortars cannons out of... Or is it best to get a sleeve made then cast the brass around it...??? anyone... Brass does look purdy when all polished up...:green:

Well brass is to brittle for a cannon barrel, you need bronze it will stretch and not burst. Other solution is to have a steel sleeve cast in place. I'll stay behind the wall when you try it out. :peep:

Shoot I thought they made some coehorn mortars out of brass I must have been mistaken... I'll have to figure out something else to do with the scrap...:green:

Brass is fine for sword & knife hilts, flint lock pans and items like that,
bronze is the critter needed for artillery. :green:

Thats a good idea. Just remember when you make your models make them larger to allow for shrinkage.

Why not cast that worthless/dangerous brass into something like a self defense emergency egress bat.
You could sign a letter of Authenticity that it contents were, add a few things and the libs would love it.
The final statement could be that it will keep brass from being recycled into machine gun ammunition.
price around $174.95 but due to possible shortages price may go up.
Think about it and just don't melt all of them down so they can see the actual parts of the cartridges.
Now if you really do this bullshit and you get rich-------- here is where you got the idea :)

Just make sure you mount the bayonet mount on that bat BEFORE the assault bat ban goes into effect:green: Then you will have a pre-ban bat:moon:

Brass was used in many pieces of artillery. and yes the Coehorn mortar is brass. I am currently constructing a coehorn mortar, but alas it is made of steel. as far as material goes, there are no issues with brass so long as you keep to the original dimensions, or relative dimensions. steel sleeves make it easier to cast. and you can proof the sleeve before you cast. I was actually thinking of making a gun out of aluminum this way. you will need a serous furnace to melt the brass though. but that is a fun hobby all by itself.
cheers,
Ray
