Here's three pictures of one of my beer/soda can mortars. Has a 1-inch sub-chamber and one heavy little mortar. I'm going to take this one and three or four other mortars to the Wanenmacher TULSA Gun Show November 8th & 9th. Should spark up some good conversations.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/bobjan/CoGunMkt003.jpg

First off, I did NOT make any of these. I merely bought and collected em!!
They will be up for sale at the Wanenmacher TULSA Gun Show on November 8 & 9th.
I don't want anyone to think that I'm selling them here on the internet and then chew my ass out for "trying" to sell something in the ARTILLERY posting area. Don't even have a price on any of them yet but I have to come up with prices for that gun show before too long. I will NOT be shipping any of them as to do so is a super GIANT pain in the rear end in packing, hauling to the shipping point and jumping through hoops to ship em. The great thing about taking them to the gun show is that the buyer gets to see exactly what he's getting with no description necessary. Anyhow, I have already posted the picture of the first beer/soda/tennis ball mortar and here's the remaining three:
This is one that shoots 2-inch ID electrical conduit filled with concrete or whatever other projectile of similar size. Instead of fuse it is fired by a slap hammer using a musket cap. Weight about 43 lbs.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/bobjan/Mortars10-08002.jpg
Next is another beer/soda can/tennis ball mortar weight about 44 lbs:

Finally here's a Dictator Mortar that also fires beer/soda can/tennis balls, weight 50 lbs:

Only reason for posting the pictures here is because I know there will be someone out there who likes seeing collections of these little noise makers and maybe likes to chat about such shooters.
Thanks for checking em out.

Well... Thanks for posting those that is a good example of the types and styles out there...
I know what you mean its easier to deal with the buyer one on one and you don't have to deal with the issue of shipping where they try to make you feel guilty for charging the actual shipping costs...:green:
I'm still looking into getting into blackpowder artillery... I hope one day to have an assortment of mortars & cannons as my disposal...:saluteflag:

Kali K....
Best part of the Black Powder thing is that there are currently NO restrictions, no paper or forms to be filled out when making the purchase of these critters. Don't know how long that'll last so don't wait too long to get yours. Best part of the web sites devoted to BP cannon and mortars is that it is really rare to find a real axehole on em. Also almost everyone on those sites is friendly and quite eager to help any new comers or anyone with questions.
Finally, the great thing about buying these things face-to-face and/or at gun shows is that the buyer get to EXACTLY what he's getting and can haul it home and not have it get lost while in transit via commercial carriers.....
OK, gotta post just one more. This one is a SBR (South Bend Replica Co.,) Dahlgren 1/7 scale cannon with a 1-inch bore and is a really powerful little scamp weighing in at around 50 lbs. Little lead balls 1-inch in diameter are not to be taken lightly. This one also has a "slap hammer" to use musket caps on a nipple. Pull that lanyard and it goes BOOM immediately instead of having to wait on a fuse to burn down into the powder chamber.

It's been on the back burner,
Taking care of M'Lady Carol takes 1st place, she came home Friday
from the hospital, and I can say I have had my hands full.
Maybe I can get back to this and some other projects later this winter as she progresses.

I don't want to go too off topic here... First I hope alls going well with your wife Allen...
Secondly is the scrap brass worthless for casting tubes, cannons and mortars... With the surplus on the market now they are not paying anything for brass now...

Their was someone in daytona florida i think that made cannons like these.. I bet that the ost of turning one on a lathe at a shop would be cost prohibitive...

I have a pc of 1/2" wall DOM pipe maybe 4-5" OD, about 4 foot long. I was going to list it for sale, for just such a thing, but the more I think about it, could I use it to build some kind of scaled down tow behind howitzer thing or something? give me some ideas. can I make it like a percussion muzzle loader you know with a pull cord to fire it, or does it have to use a fuze. also what do i do about a breech plug, thread it in or weld it. I am new to this, but how cool would it be... my neighbors think I'm nuts anyway

When it comes to questions about the making of a black powder cannon or mortar, the very best place to check out is the following web site
www.graybeardoutdoors.com (http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com). About half way down the long list of various subject threads, you'll find BLACK POWDER CANNON and MORTARS.
Be sure to tell them what material you have and what you want to build and they'll tell you if it should be safe, how to make the cannon/mortar and will answer almost any of your questions about building these things. They will NOT comment on the legality of the shooter that you may want to make. Check it out.

I have taken a few of my mortars to gun shows to either sell or B.S. about and you'd be amazed at the number of people who say that although they have almost zero machining experience, they'd still try to build their own rather than buy one. These things are kinda expensive to buy and if someone builds their own, they'd better check out the safety factor in building one. If one were to get an average of what these normally cost, I believe they'd find they go for upwards of $500. They are really fun and inexpensive to operate once the initial cost of buying one is met. With the new "guy" about to move into the White House, I believe we'd better kinda stock up on at least a small supply of required black powder if we want these to be more than just dust collecting decorators......

I had a BB mortar but sold it. So I had to make a soda/beer can mortar just for fun. How I need to make a base to shoot it.
