View Full Version : Gun Control and the Economy

With the re-introduction of legislation to ban “assault weapons”, I’ve begun to think about the potential economic repercussions. Having recently ordered a couple AR-15 type lower receivers, I’ve spent a great deal of time surfing the Internet reading up on and searching for products to build my guns the best way possible to suit my needs.
What has absolutely stunned me is the incredible availability of options and parts for the AR-15 platform. There are so many small companies out there to support this gun and its owners – it literally boggles my mind… Additionally there are an incredible number of cottage industries that provide products for numerous OTHER types of firearms as well as accessories.
So here’s the catch. America has long ceased to be a leader in the production of ordinary consumer goods. It seems that nearly anything you buy anymore that could be classified as a “necessity” is made outside of the US. It also seems that most all consumer electronics are manufactured outside the US as well. However, the manufacture of firearms and related items is one area where small-business in the US absolutely thrives.
The forecasts of all-out mayhem (from the liberal left) that the sunset of the assault weapons ban would bring never materialized. So most common folks and legislators have become blind as to the size and depth of the firearms industry in the US. I have little doubt that enemies of the second amendment are clueless as to the number of people who are employed in every step of firearms manufacture – to the final sales. The industry is HUGE!
If a draconian “assault weapons” ban occurs, the US economy and the unemployment figures that will result (along with ever increasing oil prices) could combine to bring this country to its very knees. Try and imagine how the loss of income and sales taxes from such a large domestic industry would affect our economy.
When you write letters to your legislators urging them to vote against the AW ban, please be sure to mention your concerns such a law would have on employment and small businesses that keep a manufacturing capability here in the US. A lot of the small machining and manufacturers that would be shut down often build small parts for other non-firearms related industries. Thanks.

Slick i often thought that myself ,I even looked on the Wall Street Journal to get some idea of the impact.
I cant really remember but the GNP on civilian alone was around 10% ,if you include stocks ,scopes ,and all that it came to about 12%.
Some company's were making parts here for Country's over seas ,then the Military and all that put it near 26%
But that was taking in everything ,ammo ,buildings ,ranges etc.
That almost is one third ,the big three auto makers were only 17% even less now.
But then you have the dip shit states making big bucks off firearms ,and are their worst enemy like Mass.
I guess with the lay offs and shutdowns from a Ban like you say it would be like the entire Auto industry in America shutting down.
With gas hurting them and bans on us these idiots will lose nearly 2/3rds of our GNP.
But you know i think they know that ,in fact the way they are acting i think they want that.
So we have to beg them for food ,sometimes i don't even think Communism is on their minds ,i think its more like a sick Monarchy they want.

BINGO! It's the perfect plan to contol the population - make them DEPEND on the govt...
What will come next will be laws against "hoarding", because that would make you less dependent. If you are caught "hoarding" more than a few days worth of anything, they will arrest you and confiscate your property.
It's a terrific way to bring back things like the bread-lines the former Soviet Union had.

Slick i heard a commentary out of OKC last Wednesday with some Oklahoma State Senator about all the talk about Bans ,and his State telling the feds to Fuck Off.
He said his office is swapped everyday with phone calls ,and emails from the residents of Okla . with concerns about any Gun bans against Law Abiding Citizens.
he said his State Senate was unanimous in telling Washington that any such Ban would be a Violation of the contract of State hood ,made with the Union guarantying the State all rights under the Bill of Rights and the Constitution making that contract Void.
And any change in Washington to a Government other than the Same isn't the Government we sided with ,once again dissolving that agreement.
The people of Oklahoma sent me to office expecting me to secure their rights ,and i have no other choice.
He then said , It seems the people in Washington have some idea now that they are Gods ,and are totally ignorant of our rights.
My State has LEOs that have personal firearms ,i do not believe any aggression within our borders regarding enforcement is going to be met kindly.
And i deeply pray it never comes to that , but it seems we have come to a point it just may.

phal, for all of our sake i hope thats a trend that continues, if several states stand up and say "hey, wait a fucking minute!" the feds will get the message without anyone having to take up arms to get the point across that we are tired of our rights disappearing for no real reason.

Well it seems that most of the states that don't have their heads up their collective asses has stood up and said "fuck you feds"
This could be a really fun year:couch:

I dunno... My first thought is that "I don't want to be the guy that has to die fighting for my contitutional rights".
On the other hand, I'm not in terribly good health anymore, and have no children. What better way to secure one's own place in history than giving your life for your country's ideals?

I honestly wish all those other states would sue the state of California for there gun control laws... Stupid thought right but is it anymore stupid than gun control... Everyone loves a lawsuit... Plus your hard earned federal tax dollars are going toward supporting the people and politians that create this environment that spreads to other states... You guys should get a refund...:thumb:
Fucken scum bag politians preying on the weak and stupid... We need to flushem and get some patriots in there...

Yeah Slick i thought of that also ,but then i thought i would rather go like that than see what becomes of my Country i always knew ,much less have to live in it.
Or to grow old and roll in my bed thinking about all my friends who put up a valiant fight and i wasn't there when i had a gun and could be.
Then i was a free man ,and my friends were the lucky ones ,they died free men ,they didn't see the camps ,or bear the pain i saw when they took my kids away saying they belonged to the state now.
Now i am an old man ,one of the few who remember a Country not even talked about anymore except as an example of failure.
And the sons and family's of my friends ,who were also taken away ,and no one ever saw them again or heard where they went.
I wish my guards would just shoot me .instead they laugh and make me live like this.
The young ones look at me like a freak ,from that failed era.
But they keep me alive ,as my reward for being so stupid as to be afraid ,and going along with the lies they told us.
And i dream about how it might have been if more of us had been brave ,and had joined in the fight , either way ,i would have been dead ,or still free ,but i wouldnt be this.

For those of us who are married and have children if they try to come and take away the guns, it's a rock and a hard place. Fighting is going to risk everything to a high degree, and turning them over will do the same, it will just be a month or two further down the road, and from criminals instead of people who supposedly uphold the very constitution that they are violating. What is a family man to do? They tell us to turn them in that the police will; protect you. NEvermind the fact the cops are minutes away when seconds count. As more then one Supreme Court ruling has said police officers are not obligated under any circumstances to protect the citizens of this country from harm. Only to investigate, arrest, and detain suspects for trial, after the fact. In England, they've actually straight outlawed the very act of self defense. How long before that happens here? How many English cops are shot and stabbed to death in a country where guns and knives are banned, and are not supposed to exist?

they have basically done that in cali as well, and many of the cops i run into believe in it, "call us" they say, even though when i am talking to them it is only a mere 5 hours later, or even the next day in one case.
run and hide, only fight back when you are forced into a corner and being assaulted to where your life may be in danger is what they told me. FUCK THAT, if i get forced into a corner its because my magazine is empty - the younger guys agreed with me but the older guy with 2 stripes didnt like that thought at all.
OH well, guess im just 5150

In England the biggest form of murder and robbery is Blunt trauma.
Its your claw hammer ,crooks love to sneak up and smash your head then rob you.
Knives follow that ,in case they need to confront you.
The guns come in from the eastern country's ,and they cant seem to stop them.
I have kids also , if they start coming door to door then i don't believe they will find anything here.
Because i have no idea what they are talking about ,i sold those long ago when they started talking this crap.
Then i paid bills and built that gazebo out back.
Its like Janet Reno said ,it will be determined on the last time you filled out a yellow sheet or bought a hunting license.
Were lucky here ,it is one big desert ,hundreds of little caves , old underground silos and bunker looking things , and terrain so rough it could only be reached by air or a long packing in.
Any of you Kalifornia guys ever been down around Barstow ? you could get lost out there for a long time.
We went riding 4 wheelers down there when i first got back from Alaska ,we came across some guys shooting in a pit.
The rifles they had sure didn't look Ban Compliant to me ,in fact i don't think those were legal any where.
They were nice to us ,gave us a beer and when we joked about being in Kali ,they just said ,Fuck em ,feed em rice and call em a gook.
These are the kind of guys i want at my back ,and they are my brothers.
If asked ,i dint see shit ,hell its California ,i think someone was making a movie ,now get your ass out of my face.
Screw you man ,i don't remember what they looked like ,i was drunk ,and i didn't see WTF they were driving ,i was to busy puking.
This is how we need to stick together ,if they are going to treat us like bad guys.
Im not going to do them any favors ,and i aint gonna let them lock me up because i saw something that looked like a gun ,as far as i know they were carrying dildos.

For those of us who are married and have children if they try to come and take away the guns, it's a rock and a hard place.
+1 on that!
The worst problem for (a family man) to fight is that the wife & children will be exterminated - simply because they will be suspect to sharing your ideals. Witness what happened to the women & children in Waco - they couldn't have anyone escape with inside knowledge..
The best defence, would be to build a residence just like Phal & Rhonda's. It would take some "extra effort" to break down the front door on an x-rocket silo - and that's why I'm actually surprised any have been allowed to be purchased by mere citizens.

Slick they are not sold as Silos ,they have a different name for them ,ours was called a DCR ,then they attached a name to the road leading into it even if it is dirt, and the DCR received a number like on your house.
A mail box out on the road and you are done. Now if i sold it it would be like a listing on a house ,and description is ,Sub level cement dwelling.
We had a lot of help from people who went through this before ,if you say Silo ,your price and hassles go $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
And they are one big pain in the ass !!! i am painting the entrance and i will get pics for you guys ,but we tried that and the walls were so dark ,it was like it absorbed any flash we used and you couldn't tell what it was.
And buying one is nothing ,they are all privately owned ,when the Gov. deserted them the land they were on like ours went back to the land owner ,like reverse emanate domain. What freaks us out is how many are out there ,and they are not on any map. And trying to find anything out there on them as to pre Salt treaty's is impossible.
Our house is no slouch either ,i posted once the previous owner had this half underground concrete building out back ,I think it was from the old fall out shelter days ,or a lot of people used to do that to keep it cooler.
I don't know what the guy was ,we spent days here when we bought it vacuuming primers out of the carpet ,rounds in the closets ,all loose.
Me and Rhonda's brother retrieved box full loads of loose 30/06 from under the house , it has a steel 8ft fence all around it ,and some steel plates welded to its back side every 10 ft. And little step platforms behind the plates . It is up on a hill and you can control all around it for over a 1/2 mile .
I asked the Rancher next to me if he knew anything about this guy.
He said he lived here alone with his son ,who he home schooled ,and he wasn't social even one bit.
He was an older guy ,and they stayed to themselves ,never had visitors ,and came here from Oregon.
The only scoop we ever got was from the old lady at the post office 3 miles down the main hwy. here .She said he would talk to her a little ,and that he always received checks from the VA ,and the Government or letters from Oregon ,from his sister.
he was some early Viet Nam Vet ,and while he was finishing his service his wife died in a car accident leaving him his son.
He retired from the Army ,and came here and that is all we know ,not even his rank ,People here went from being nosy to feeling sorry for him and they left it alone.
They don't know why he even left ,he just did ,and this house stayed emty for 17 years like he was coming back.
Then someone in Oregon turned it over to a Bank for what was left owed on anything. Weird ,something happened to this guy ,he didn't like people and he didn't even vote. Payed cash for every thing ,and never let his son out of his sight.
The people who may have known were long gone when we got here ,and the Preacher back then was about the only one who went to see him .
The Preachers son went sometimes and told kids at school the guys house was clean ,and had photos of his wife on the walls along with pics of solders ,awards ,Placks . the preacher told his son to not talk to anyone about it.
But i hear NM is full of guys like that ,or it used to be.
The Preacher told his wife that he deeply believed in GOD ,and when he asked him once about any family in case of an emergency ,he just said that every thing and everyone he ever loved or cared about was dead now ,and he gave the preacher his sisters name and phone number.

you know, my dad asked me what I would do if they wanted all my guns and ammo some day, my reply was they can have it all back one bullet at a time. his response was.. Call me. i don't understand how such a large thing like taking our guns away could be left up to a handful of individuals who think our constitution no longer is valid. These are the people someone has elected to represent the whole. unfucking believable. this small handful of representatives can change the whole world, or at least the united States, and no one anywhere can do anything about it?? WTF??

I don't know about no one can do anything , It would depend on how they go about it. A bunch of doors kicked in ,family's roughed up may just turn something real fast.
The Wifes Brother is a State Trooper in Texas ,and i bet this is going on in a lot of PDs . He owns personal Firearms also , and so do a lot of his friends ,and he says the ones who own guns seem to understand the oath they took better than the ones who don't.
The ones who don't ,he said are the ones, us and the cops like him need to worry about . They act like they are mind numb robots .
He said once we all were one big happy Dept. but after this came up and a bunch of heated arguments happened it now is two different groups.
I have no doubt the Tribal Nations will not back down , And some States are pissed also. I worry more about the stupid gun owners ,the PATTON wanna bees , doing something real stupid and turn public or world sentiment against us.

Part of my "fear" runs from the number of "future police officers" who are from the pool of Iraqui combat vets. Not because these guy are bad people - but my thought is that they may have possibly acquired a "blast/breach/enter" mentality.
I'm a law-abiding citizen, and if the police ever came with some kind of warrant - I'd comply as I have nothing to hide... Cripes, I talk about all my activities on the Internet for Christ Sakes! If someone were to breach my door unannounced (in the middle of the night), the possibility certainly exists that a "home invasion crime" of such nature may be met with significant force.

You know 1919_4_ME has brought this up a couple of times... They don't need to do that in the middle of the night full on break your door down entry... why don't they get the guys when they're picking up some jelly donuts then at least the cops could confiscate something they could put to good use... Seriously though things like Waco and Ruby Ridge... could have been handled differently strong handed tactics with citizens will only get people hurt...
and hell yeah if someone bust into my door in the middle of the night they best duck because home invaision robbers do shout the same stuff they do... Your coming out of a sleep and they don't think your going to return fire... They're crazy...
If they were protecting us I wouldn't have to worry about something like that occuring... So no I don't want there protection. I know they can't protect me I've been places where I couldn't get a federal marshall to go with me because they were to scared... Why were they scared because the people made it very clear they wanted to be left alone and didn't want those people here...
Anyone ever take a look at the Mustang in the new Transformers movie on the side it says To Punish and Enslave...
