Finally have something worth posting about over here. :)
Got my adapter last week and today finally got to pick up my 1919 from AA.
It's torn down on a beach towel here in the living room. Everything looks good (to my untrained and inexperienced eye). Headspacing checks out OK my ammo.
I was hoping to hit the range, but it's too hot today. It's 94o already and climbing to 97o in a bit. With 63% humidity here, that's just not much fun and will hotter still at the range. It will be much cooler next weekend so I'll wait until then.
For now, pics will have to do. Rich, thanks again. The adapter looks good. I'm coating the bottom of the can with a little bed liner spray to keep it in better shape. Pardon the oily fingerprints, but at least I got ugly concrete in the photo...

Excellent glad you got everything all together. Now all you do is gotta hit the range and give us a range report on how everything worked out for you.
I bet all that steel is nice and hot sitting out in the sun today I damn near burned my hand yesterday picking up an AA tripod that was sitting outside for about 20 minutes..:flame:

Couple of quick questions. Tore the gun down to familiarize myself with it. Actually got it all back together too...:green:
Cycled a belt through it by hand with the firing pin removed and it was pretty smooth which I hope is a good sign. As I said before, the headspacing looks good too and all my ammo is NATO .308 which should give me a reasonable level of consistency.
Two questions though. Should there be a locking ring between the booster and the shroud? I saw some photos of a booster with a ring, but the booster in the photo had a shoulder where it meets the shroud and, as you can see above, mine does not.
Also, how much up and down play does the front sight have? There is a small set screw above the mount screw which I assume is supposed to have a shim to set against and tighten down, but mine does not. The front sight moves freely up and and down in the slot? Anyone have a photo of the small parts for the front sight?

Yes there is supposed to be either a locking ring between booster and shroud, but looking at your picture I see the ring is on the gun, not missing.
Nope, no shim but you should have the small screw in the picture located above the larger 1/4 inch mounting screw. if you look at the screw its pointy on the end like a carb fuel air screw so it actually bites into the metal and really keeps the sight body from sliding from the zero setting.
If you don't have the three screws in this picture then your are missing one (or more).

Thanks.
I was surprised that I could remove the booster by hand. That's why I wondered about a locking ring.
I have all the screws in the front sight like your photo, but the small screw (carb screw is a great way to describe it) doesn't bite which is why I assumed there was a small shim that may be missing in the behind to press against the receiver. As far as I can tell, it's fully seated. I'll fiddle with it some more.

To set the lock rings there are two (?) places that you would have to take a punch and stake the lock ring into a recess to actually lock it. Personally I just make sure their tight before I go shooting but I don't actually set the lock rings.
If you have a booster wrench you could just use that to make sure its good and tight before you shoot or if you don't feel like ordering a "one use only tool" I would try one of these rubber strap wrenches, that should get it pretty tight.

Thats a Two piece booster... the lock rings for those are very far and few between... You best bet would be to order a two piece 30-06 booster from BMG parts that way if you wanted to shoot 06 or 8mm at least you'd have the part for it... The two piece units that come from Rich at BMG Parts have all the lockrings... :thumb:
