Assault Rifles For Hunters?
As I write this, I'm hunting coyotes in southeastern Wyoming with Eddie Stevenson, PR Manager for Remington Arms, Greg Dennison, who is senior research engineer for Remington, and several writers. We're testing Remington's brand new .17 cal Spitfire bullet on coyotes.

I must be living in a vacuum. The guides on our hunt tell me that the use of AR and AK rifles have a rapidly growing following among hunters, especially prairie dog hunters. I had no clue. Only once in my life have I ever seen anyone using one of these firearms.

I call them "assault" rifles, which may upset some people. Excuse me, maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them "terrorist" rifles. They tell me that some companies are producing assault rifles that are "tackdrivers."

Sorry, folks, in my humble opinion, these things have no place in hunting. We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern. I've always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don't use assault rifles. We've always been proud of our "sporting firearms."

This really has me concerned. As hunters, we don't need the image of walking around the woods carrying one of these weapons. To most of the public, an assault rifle is a terrifying thing. Let's divorce ourselves from them. I say game departments should ban them from the praries and woods.

Cool, I think I'll drop Remington a line and thank them - because I've been buying Remington products (partucularly reloading products) for over 24 years and am glad to see a company take a stand.

In motorcycling we know them as the Fat Old Guys with Goldwings. Or BMW's. Or factory fresh high-dollar Road Kings. It is that faction of society reaching from Yuppie Scum on upward. Of course these wanna-be bikers brought the things to the party capable of corrupting the principles of freedom and liberty: Millions of bucks, and political correctness. And as a result, we have seen such abberations as the Daytona 200 changed from an unlimited balls out Formula One motorcycle race with the most radical fringe designs screaming around at near 200 mph, to a puny 600cc teenie bopper bike race run completely "safety concious" among factory teams of clean cut short haired blank faced autopilot riders who always repeat the sponsors before thier own name... These Yuppie Scum AMA members scorn crotch rockets capable of 100 mph wheelies, loud race pipes, the ability to do a stoppie and stand it on it's nose, and basically everything that makes motorcycles cool. They and thier money, along with thier obviously low political risk and non-troublemaker image, have corrupted the AMA into a toothless fundraising organization with no clear idea of what it actually was created to do. Today, it's mission statement could be described as: Keep the Fat Old Guys happy so they Keep Writing Checks. And stay out of trouble with the Law.

Just replace the bikes with guns, and you know what has happened to the NRA and GOA. And we happen to be the guys with the loud pipes and snarly over-cammed race engines..the enemy of the Fat Old Guys.

I am in total agreement with Von, hopefully the message will fly far and wide that black rifle are as American as apple pie - and the NRA better step up to the second amendment plate for everyone or lose alot of members who enjoy our "evil" guns.

Well it is interesting that this dimwit chose to say what he said in reference to the AR15..what a moron. AR15 was the model introduced by Eugene Stoner / Armalite in the '60s which was ultimately adopted as rifle US mod. M-16...he basically called every American serviceman armed in the field a terrorist, because every one of them is carrying an AR15 variant / derivative weapon unless they are armed with those OTHER politically incorrect "sniper rifles"...or God forbid, Machine Guns!

He actually would have had a chance to live had he attacked the AK47's and their very prolific Romanian variants, which by now must have been imported here by the millions, but I don't know anybody nor have I seen anybody hunt with an AK, though a good one with a milled reciever and really nice fitting (some Saiga rifles are pretty damn good) and headspace will surprise you on the accuracy issue. Still, his statement at least would have carried some validity then, the AutomatKalashnikov Model 1947 being the weapon of choice and availability of terrorists worldwide..sorry.. The following of the AR15 and its' variants is huge, pointed out by the number of companies producing the guns, the number of versions available, and the huge number of accessory and parts manufacturers dedicated to it. It really surprises me that a guy who is supposedly a "journalist" for the shooters' of America would actually have no idea..it is definitely the "fat old guy with Goldwing" thing..he's just like those lame-asses with AMA cards..he's so narrow in his views and so focused on his particular hardware tastes, that he failed to notice that the biggest selling item in his entire sport is the 600cc crotch-rocket sportbike..he just did the same thing as calling all crotch-rocket drivers criminals and hooligans, which would definitely be suicide for a motorcycle journalist to ever say. Oh well Jim, you blew off both feet this time..rest in peace, dumbass...
