Thinking about picking one up in .510 DTC. Does anybody have one yet? Any feed back would be great.

I've been think about getting one too... I live in CA - but am thinking about going with the .50 BMG as the ammo is available and there's nowhere near where I live (in CA to shoot the thing). Since I'll be hauling it out-of-state (to Nevada) for shooting, I see no reason to buy the .510 DTC. I just need to talk to my DOJ contact to be sure my plan is legal - but as long as I don't assemble the .50 BMG upper (to a lower) then it shouldn't be considered a "firearm"...

I ended up going with a ALS in .510 DTC. Won't be ready till March 09. I don't see myself leaving California.

Ever...:green:

The ALS unit is a nice one the wait is well... Understandable... Product is top notch...

I'm going to go with a bohica as soon as my projects all dry up... So I can save up for one they are nice looking uppers... Fortunately I papered a lower before the ban so I'm good...

Never say "ever". But I like the beach just as much as I like to shoot.I wish I would have got a pre registration lower. Sure would of made reloading a lot easier. Waiting on dies right now. Good thing we have BEN. He set up a group buy for a set of lee's.

Thats cool I didn't know they'd make a custom large die... I've loaded on Lee or years and thats just one of the reasons why is because they are good to there customers... I hate to even try to warranty anything by them... I feel so cheap and dirty...:green:

Well... You never know laws change... All they did by that ban was increase popularity... We probibly have more 50 cal's in this state than any other in the nation now... Smooth move californian polititians... they should have just left it alone...

Yes, Lee will make custom die sets for the new 'Classic Cast' 1.25" press.
They state their mfg lead time as 180days though...

I had them make five .510DTC sets up for me back in 2006 when the DTC rifles were first starting to show up. At that time, they actually came in a couple of weeks 'early'.

This go around, we ordered 25+ sets made to the .50DTC-EDM spec for a CalGuns group buy. So far, they're now running a couple of months behind! Still hard to beat the price though.

Too bad they don't just bundle them with the press like they do the .50BMG.
They'd sell a bunch of them in CA.... the press is the perfect size for the shorter DTC case.

Have you ran this idea by them??? You're right it would have made life much easier.

Hey Ben have you reloaded any of the Barrett 416's yet... If so how do they reload on the classic cast press...
I'm still thinking about getting a 416 first before my 50 from bohica... I've got my lower papered so why hurry right unless of course they run a ban on uppers and then I'd be screwed...

Yes, I did buy a set of the Lee .416 dies.
Odd that they stock THAT wildcat with fewer owners than the DTCs, but at 79.00 on sale from Midway, they were hard to pass up!

I picked up some .416 range brass at Lytle Creek, and played with those.
The dies were pretty rough. I had to spend some time with the scotch brite pads and a drill motor to get the burrs out of the neck.

Otherwise, reloading the .416 is much like the .50BMG. About the same effort required to resize. Making the cases from BMG brass will be MUCH harder than DTC. More like making M48 spotter cases. CH4D sells a 4 die forming kit for ~1000.00.

.416 CNC turned bullets from my supplier run about 1.50ea.

figured you'd be the guy that would know about that... I think the 416 will pick up a good cult following its pretty flat shooting I hear...

Well hell then, if thats all thats keeping you there pack up yer stuff and move to Florida.
Lots of sweet beaches and one of the most gun friendly states in this crumbling union.

I've got a Bohica on order. It should arrive within the month (I'm hoping). From what I've read, they are supposed to be great rifles especially for the price.

I always thought that was a piss poor trade name.
BOHICA is usually something done TO you, and not in the good way:shock:

Yes, I have a MKI and I like it a lot. Took some fitting and kicks like, well, a 50 but actually the service I needed (almost none) was great and Chris is an easy guy to work with.
I hacked on it and made a mount and tripod for it. Kinda rough, but a "proof of concept" I got deployed though before I could test fire iton the tripod :-(
