What is the best way to duplicate original markings on a right side plate. Problem: It is already assembled.
I don't want it to look like a spastic 5 year old did it with a crooked Chinese stamp set and a sledgehammer.
Mods: Please move to gunsmithing. Thanks!

Good question Patriot. I'd like to know myself, never seeing an original up close, does anyone know if they were stamped or engraved? Any pictures would be great.

everybody keeps saying orion arms does good engraving but it'll cost ya. if no other option comes to heed, maybe give em a call.
as far as engraving while still on the gun, well.... dunno, most machines ive seen in small shops dont have the room to fit the whole box into. Hell, thats if they didnt freak out when asking them to do it lol

If I can't find a pro to do it, maybe I'll go with a sheetmetal ID plate secured with drive screws. It'd be inexpensive and would look milspec. The radio equipment I work on is marked that way, as are large Naval guns. Why not a 1917A1?

Yeah, I thought about asking the jewlers up the road from me if they could do engraving.
That would probably go over like a fart in church walking through the front door with a fully assembled 1919 :rofl2:

Just agree on the price before you take the belt out of it and field strip it
Good way to get the best price !!!!!!

Okay cool if you do decide to attached a brass nameplate to it... But somewhere that gun has to have a Serial number stamped into the RSP...
Stamping is a lot more difficult if you have it on a surface that absorbs the blow of the strike so stamping on a assebled box does not turn out well most of the defense acceptance stamps you see on the guns are usually a little light in one area or another on the side plates however where they put the stamp the clearest is on seam of the LSP and top plate...

I believe the originals were Roll engraved the dies would be cost prohibitive. The Panograph engraving comes very close to the original and is your best bet.
